Charlie Brown Christmas

This year since our kids didn't really want any gifts (Wii? Nope. DS? Nope. Hmmm...) we decided to do a family vacation. It may be our last year with our oldest at home for the holidays anyway and we really wanted it to be special.

The question was would we do a full out Christmas decorating here or not? Would we have a tree and Santa in our vacation house? The concences ended up being that we'd do a subdued Christmas here with a smaller tree and a less decorated household, and a smallish Charlie Brown Tree in our vacation house decorated with popcorn and cranberry garlands and seashells, and we'll hang our stockings for Santa to find us there...

I have to say this though. In spite of our decision to keep our tree small and simple this year, our 5 foot tall narrow Noble looks rather forlorn and sad tucked in the corner between the couch and the huge roll top desk. It looks...small. It looks...skinny. It looks... sort of pathetic. Maybe once we get the lights, garlands, and ornaments on it, we'll see a brighter happier view but for now? It's one sad small tree in the space that was occupied last year by a 6 and a half footed fat bushy fir.

Tonight we will decorate our little friend. I hope he can hold up to our expectations!

We keep looking at the little stick of pine branches and wondering what we've done. On Christmas day though, as we walk the beach and collect shells and build sand-angels, we'll know that one years worth of a small tree is worth more than a Christmas at home alone with noone else to share our joy with.

Charlie Brown? Your a good man... and a wonderful tree chooser. You'd be proud of us this year!

Merry Christmas Everyone!
